EUCLID External Baffle

Activities: Structural & Thermal engineering

To understand the nature of dark energy and dark matter, Euclid will map the 3D distribution of billions of galaxies across space.
The cylindrical external baffle – developed by QinetiQ Space – will protect the instrument from stray light and will provide a thermally stable environment, whilst also acting as payload radiator.

Throughout phases B, C and D, ATG performed structural and thermal engineering; including high-accuracy modelling and analysis of the baffle’s cryogenic radiator performance, complete structural analyses for review milestones including Vibro-Acoustic niche analyses, structural design and optimisation of e.g. the mounting feet and vibration / VA testing co-engineering.
